Great wildlife and plantlife guideJul 26, 2010 We've always had this book at my house as I grew up, and I've always referred to it when I wanted to know a bug, animal or plant. It's been a great companion for anyone who's curious to what may be around the back yard. I decided it was time my boyfriend had one too. The book, really, is the same thing as it always was. I really don't see anything revised or updated about it, unless I'm overlooking things, but regardless, it is a wonderful must have book if you deal with wildlife and outdoors often enough. Very happy to have it!
Perfect All-Around Nature ReferenceJan 23, 2010 Anyone who has even a passing curiosity about the natural world of plants and animals in North America should own this book. It has the perfect balance of general and technical info, accurate illustrations for identifying that mystery plant or animal, and is well organized for easy use. Easily understood by both adults and kids.
Great book!Dec 27, 2009 I highly recommend this book for anyone with curious children, or anyone of ANY age who is curious about the nature around them. Our family was given a previous edition of this book when our kids were small and we spent hours looking up odd-looking bugs we came across, the little striped snake we weren't sure of, what this or that wildflower was called, and what kind of tree is that in the neighbor's yard? Of course, this book doesn't contain EVERY variation of plant, bug, reptile, and mammal, but it has a great number of them - enough to satisfy most questions!
One thing - the illustrations in this book are color drawings, very detailed but not photographs. So to determine the size of some things - like for example birds - you will have to refer to the descriptions and size measurements.
We bought this copy of the revised edition as a Christmas gift for my daughter's college roommate after she saw and loved our book. It was a big hit!
Excellent learning tool for childrenSep 17, 2009 I purchased this book for my 2.5 yr old nephew as he loves birds, insects etc and always wants to know what kind they are. He uses this book as a reference and kind look up animals by himself. The book is very easy to use. He absolutely loves it!
A must have for all my grandchildren!!!!!!! One of my favorite books, I have used for over 30 yrs.Jul 12, 2009 I have used this book for over thirty years to identify birds, trees,
wild flowers, sea shells, and reptils. I want each of my grandchildren to have one of these books. I believe it will be educational and intertaining to them all of their life. I whole heartedly recomend it to anyone who enjoys nature. Sincerely, Linda
