5Awesome book!May 20, 2008
I am a hand quilter and was astounded by the usefulness of this book! The only caution is that you will need a scanner (or take it to a copier, but in my experience that is an endeavour that quickly becomes costly!). I invested in a scanner Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 Color Image Scanner (0307B001)and am so glad that I did.
This book tells you if the design is good for hand or machine stitching or both.
It shows what shapes the quilting designs will fit into nicely.
It takes a lot of the guesswork out and gives a lot of cool ideas/angles that I, at least, might not have thought up!!
It also has a two different alphabet/number sections (one fancy, one plain) that I found very useful.
It has a section with many different cultural designs....well, anyway, I love this book!!

5Great Design IdeasMay 11, 2008
This is the most comprehensive book I have found on quilting motifs. Designs are separated conveniently into categories by simple shape which aids in quick searching. Most useful for me is the excellent section on drafting patterns. Because each design in the book carries an indication of appropriate scale and the design's adaptability to machine or hand quilting techniques the possibilities for customizing my own quilting designs are endless.

1Too Tiny To Be UsefulSep 08, 2007
If you don't have a printer that can enlarge the designs, this book will be useless. I gave my copy away.

I love that this book gives the percentages you use to enlarge each pattern to a specific quilt block size.

51000 great quilting designsFeb 21, 2006
This compact book is a gem. Like the title says, there are 1000 patterns inside for many different block sizes and shapes. There are designs for triangles, circles, polygons, stars, borders, repeat patterns, squares, fillers, and many ethnic patterns to name a few. There are lots of styles represented from traditional patterns to art deco, as well as pictures from nature. Each pattern is marked as suitable for hand or machine quilting, and suggested block shapes for single use of the design. There's an enlargement table in the back so you can fit the pattern to whatever size block you need. There are alot of fresh new ideas here that will last you for many years.
