here is what I think about this book....Yes,It is colorful ,but do not get it if your child does not know about monsters. My son is too young to know what they are anyway, for him it is just something to look at and to chew on, but I can see an older baby who didnt know about monsters freacking out of the thought that there might be monsters under the bed,in the closet,in the bathroom, around the house! so if you have no problem will your child imagining and being afraid of monsters, don't get the book, save yourself some trouble. Another thing what bothers me about this book more than anything is : a monster in the kitchen who eats GREEN VEGETABLES like green beans, broccoli, sprouts, and the rhyme says that those are disgusting and not real food. Those are very good and healthy vegetables for kids to eat and it is hard enough to make kids eat those period! and here this book suggest that those are disgusting vegetables....terrible!

3Has it's problemsFeb 28, 2010
With the exception of the last page this book isn't bad. Although the text is a bit lengthy for a pop up book it is manageable. The images are vibrant and it seems relatively durable. I had to actually hold the book aside until I could edit the text of the last page, however. On each page the monsters are eating things from the room like soap and underwear. The last monster is in the kitchen and the narrator says how disgusted she is about the monster eating veggies. Broccoli (one of the veggies being consumed) is a favorite of my daughter, but I know how fickle toddlers can be. Considering how so many kids wrestle with nutrition to begin with it seems like a poor idea to demonize vegetable consumption. I really am not one of those people who wants a kill joy healthy message to everything. I just don't see the point here.

4Great Pop-Up Book!Nov 10, 2009
This is a great book for little ones! My son loves opening up the monster's mouth to discover what's inside. Obviously after alot of use, pieces will wear and require some mending with tape but its definately worth it because it keeps him engaged and inteacting with the story. Definately worth the money!

This book is beautifully illustrated, I love the bright colors. There are more words than the earlier children's books which I also like because my daughter is nearing two and I like being able to read longer stories to her. All around this is a great addition to our library :)
