 GOOD FOR COOKIE DOUGH OR MELONSAug 22, 2010
I've used this scoop for baking cookies and also for making melon balls. I haven't tried it on a variety of cookies, just some oatmeal cookies....and it worked well and there was a whole lot less mess! Melon balls...cantaloupe, honey dew or watermelon...are easy to make as well. I have no real complaints.

This scoop cannot release thicker doughs properly. The handles bend, causing the gears to skip and become mis-aligned. I bought 3 sizes and they all have the same problem.

small=melon baller, medium=cookies, large=muffin & ice creamJul 16, 2010
I actually already had the small scoop and the large scoop by OXO and just recently ordered this in the medium scoop from Amazon. These are very well made and my others have lasted years.
The small one makes perfect tea cookies or melon balls for fruit salad. The large one is great for ice cream scooping or 4 to 5" lg mega cookies such as whoopie pies, and the medium is a perfect normal sized cookie scooper.
The spring mechanism works smoothly and we use these often and wash in the dishwasher each time. They have held up with no issues and make baking and other kitchen scooping faster and less messy.
No negatives...we've had no problems with ours.
As an aside, I did find the large size at TJ Maxx for a couple bucks less. But then again, I paid tax so it probably winds up almost the same as Amazon. But if you need some in a pinch and need them fast, they often carry OXO.

Although it may not be something everyone thinks about, the tension on this scoop is perfect. I have small, weak hands, and this scoop is very easy for me to use while still maintaining perfect tension. It releases dough/batter easily every time, no matter how hard or sticky. Worth every penny.

I bought this scoop on the recommendation of [...], which recommended this scoop for scooping muffin batter into the muffin tin. Not only does it work great for muffin batter, it's works great for scooping cookie batter onto the cookie sheet. I used to use a large spoon and my fingers for that task -- no longer! I sprayed the scoop very lightly with Pam before using it with oatmeal cookie dough and the scoop of dough came out perfectly each time, in the right size and without the mess that having to use my hand to form the dough used to make.
