Here's what the cover of this book claims: "Your Cat Interpreter: How to understand what your cat is telling you. Discover what your cat is really saying. Here, at last, is a comprehensive guide to decoding what your cat's mysterious body language and distinctive vocalizations are telling you."

None of that is accurate in the least.

This is a slim volume that's light on content -- large fonts, big pictures, lots of white space -- and even so it gives precious little space to any of that. (Instead, you'll find cat history, cats in stories, what different breeds look like, and other such stuff.)

What it does cover about body language and vocalization is so simple that the only people who don't know it are folks who literally have never spent any time around cats.

I was hoping to find information on various types of meows, some real details about body language subtleties, how to interpret different eye movements and ear movements and such (which are important to cats) and that kind of thing.

If that's what you're looking for, too, then forget this book!

But if you want to know that cats rub and meow when they want to be fed, or that they purr when they're content and hiss when they're mad, or they might bite you if you rub their bellies, by all means buy this book. Because that's all you're going to get about cat communication, along with a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with the topic.
